Most youths on St Maartnen have been labeled as Rude boys, Lazy, Dumb, not ambitious and idlers, if we would just name a few. But have we ever taken a moment to understand why these youths are being labeled this way. While maybe 20% out of the 100% may actually be fit to carry this name, the next 80%, are well educated or bare I wide range of common sense, willing to work and ambitious but have not been giving an opportunity to express what they are capable of…….
Why I am writing this is because I think it’s about time we understand the obstacles our St Maarten youths are being faced with, while trying to obtain a better status for themselves and children.
Over the weekend Denicio Wyatte a Local young entrepreneur was faced with a dilemma when he tried to get familiar with who is occupying the parcel of government land in the St Peters area that he recently obtain to continue his agricultural ventures and has the proper documentation for.
Mr Wyatte was approached by the Richardson Family in a very disrespectful manner, Hyacinth Richardson Better known amongst the St Peters Community as ‘’Brother’’ came by the property along with his brother ‘’Cleo’’ who also placed cows on Wyatte Property … He explained to Wyatte that this land belongs to his sister and she will be coming shortly…
The conversation about the land became out of control when Wyatte ask about seeing their documentation and if they have the rights to be their then he will leave, The Richardson family refused to show any documents and the sister proceeded to Rip Mr Wyatte’s private property sign down… Wyatte found this very disrespectful, coming from community member that he grew up around all his life, friend of mother and grandmothers and this is how they treat our youths… After the tension escalated Wyatte was warned by Hyacinth, that take it easy Wyatte ‘’ I always got my thing with me’’ referring to a fire arm in his right pocket… Wyatte got a close glimps and was lucky that he had a witness with him, funny thing is they didn’t know Wyatte was recording the whole thing on his phone… After he told them that he has it on tape and will play it out for the community officer Felix Richards, you can hear in the recording that he know trying to say that it was a water bottle he had in his pocket… Never the less as a public figure never try to bring down the same people from the community that have built you up, and now with no style, they do it with gun threats…
