Well, cheers to an awesome first week of the new year. This week was filled with revelations on how this will be a great year… Can’t say I did not do much this week, as it was sure no a vacation mode week for me. Matter fact, I cant tell ya when last I really took a day off from the farm life..
Can’t lie either, working in this field is very rewarding in many ways, especially therapeutically. Never really seems like your working, and that sometime can be a bad thing especially if your not taking the adequate rest the body requires. The good thing is, if you have the energy to push, push and take the rest when the body tells ya to hold it down.
But, on a serious note, your body is just like a car, it needs fuel (food), coolant (water) and the engine turn off from time to time (rest). So at times we must find a balance or we end up in the garage (hospital, doctor visits) more then our regular schedule maintenance service (Check ups). HAHHAHA
Well this week, we started off great with a few minor disappointment pertaining to a few lost crops that did not get the attention they deserved due to lack of timing to get to them.
But its not a complete lost, having crops on different locations can be a bit of a challenge if not managed properly with additional help. So, this year educating an additional assistant or 2 will be the mission to take on the additional task at hand.
Crops I plan to focus on this year is upgrading the supply of salad mix to meet the demand. Currently in collaboration with Turning Point foundation we are cultivating spinach, bak choy, salad mix, basil, season peppers, bird peppers, tomatoes and chives. Large fruit crop tress such as golden apple, soursop, sugar apple, ackee and pomegranate were also install along side the coconut, almond and passion fruit tree on the property.
It’s really great experience to work alongside the team at TPF and the residence there, as they foster a level of respect and willingness to see positive progress. It also gives you a chance to see your challenges in others and find solutions or means to elevate another brother or sister to a positive state of mind.
It’s been over a decade now since I have been diving deep into the research and development pertaining to the sustainability of agriculture for our beautiful island. Since 2012-2013 I have been exploring the ins and outs as much as I can, when it comes to sustainable crop types, organic fertilization and pesticide applications..
I think now its time to take things to the next level. Self advancement is always a must if one seeks it. I Look forward to competing my online course on agriculture, economics and science and hope that this will help to add value to anyone that seeks too share this journey of embracing nature in its fullness.
Had an amazing week truly, as from the first day of the new year the most high clearly made his presence known to keep on the right side of the path for the real journey has just begun.
This week I had a chance to meet with some great people, share great ideas, participated in the Farmers Market, clean up around the farm and house a bit and got ready to embrace the the good energy that is destined to come our way this upcoming week.. Key word, OUR WAY, because believe it or not, We can never achieve the bigger goal of food security and sustainability on our own. It must to a collective cooperative effort of those that keep their heart and mind in the right place.
So this year Le We make it happen, no long talk, just make it happen!!!
