Happy Emancipation day to everyone on St Maarten and the dutch Caribbean . The joy of freedom is enjoyed by many but yet still a few seem to carry a tension as to if they are really free. The free world seem to have a lot to offer to man but yet seem to still be lacking something. Perhaps that thing is just the mind set of a people, so that one day we call all truly enjoy what freedom is truly worth…
In June 2018 edition of CX we get a chance to catch up with and amazing woman doing an amazing job, St Maartens Head of Culture, Ms Clara Reyes . She just accomplished coaching the 100 Voice Choir so that they may let their voices be heard for this Emancipation Day July 1, 2018. The event on the Philipsburg Board Walk was truly a spectacular one. You can check out a few photos below. We also covered an article in this months edition that we added to the culture and art section of CX entitled ” SLAVERY AND THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM IN ST. MARTIN” published by Patina magazine in January 2016.
The article gives a great outline of the timeline of when the local inhabitants battle with the year of slaver through the Caribbean but especially French and Dutch St Maarten and how the great day of July 1, 1863..
