CUL DE SAC – On Saturday July 20th , representatives from the Elwaldo Richardson Agriculture Foundation, Spaceless Gardens and Soualiga Social Movement mutually agreed to plan and execute and agricultural-industrial fair in observance of World Food Day 16th October 2013.
The theme of World Food Day 2013 is “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”. The group is poised to host this open fair where the public can experience what a sustainable food system would look, work and taste like.
Today almost 870 million people worldwide are chronically undernourished. Unsustainable models of development are degrading the natural environment, threatening ecosystems and biodiversity that will be needed for our future food supply. Calls for profound changes in our agriculture and food systems are becoming more frequent and more insistent. (Source F.O.A)
Hence, a food market with locally grown food, presentation booths from various food-, health-, gardening- and agricultural producers, businesses and organizations can be expected at this fair. Also being planned, are live presentations of sustainable food systems that can be setup and maintained in anyone’s garden. There will also be presentations of how important agriculture and self-sustainability is for the population of the island of St. Maarten then, now and in the future.
The organizations involved have recognized and are hereby adhering to the frequent calls from society for a profound change in our agriculture and food systems in this nation. Any businesses, persons or organizations that would like to participate in this fair, by selling locally grown produce or exhibiting products, systems or agricultural equipment please contact The Organizers..
