GIANT SWEET POTATOES Grown in St Maarten

TDH – COLE BAY–Cole Bay resident Stephan Letang is now convinced that St. Maarten’s land is very fertile after reaping two giant sweet potatoes in his yard recently.

Letang said he was given a young sweet potato plant from a neighbour about two years ago which he planted in his yard. He said he left the plant to grow.

A gardener recently reaped the plants while cleaning his yard recently and Letang said he had been surprised to see the size of the two large sweet potatoes, which were reaped with other smaller ones. He gave the gardener the larger sweet potato and decided to bring the other to the office of The Daily Herald for the public to see what St. Maarten soil can produce.

He said the gardener cooked the sweet potato and it was quite tasty. He plans to indulge in his when he prepares a meal with it.

Letang said he will continue to make use of the country’s fertile soil to plant. He said more persons should use the land to grow things rather than always purchasing them.
